Save our streets - scrap the c-charge western extension!

An unwanted and failed scheme

When the former Labour Mayor extended the congestion charging zone to the Hammersmith & Fulham border with Kensington & Chelsea, he did so despite his own consultation showing that 63% of residents and 72% of businesses in West London were against the extension.

Since its introduction it has been a disaster for Hammersmith.  Our roads are much busier and parking has become a nightmare, especially around areas like Barons Court, Brook Green, Olympia and Shepherds Bush.

Now, even offical Transport for London (TfL) studies show that the zone has done little to combat congestion.

Our chance to get rid of this unfair tax is now.  Boris Johnson has promised that he will be bound by the results of the new consultation on the extented zone.

More Slaughter flip-flops

This is also yet another issue that Ealing Labour MP, Andrew Slaughter, who wants to return to Hammersmith politics, has flip-flopped on.  When he was leader of the council he failed to persuade his Labour colleague, the then Mayor of London to stop the western extension.  This could be because he doesn’t know what he thinks on the issue, as whilst he now claims to be against the extension, his voting record in the council reveals that he has voted in favour of the extension!  Shaun Bailey has been consistently against the western extension of the Congestion Charge.

The new Conservative Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, is giving local people the chance to scrap the western extension and is running a consultation exercise throughout September 2008 to determine what to do with the zone.   You can have your say online by clicking here or you can write to:
